Yang Fuyuan is a tenured professor at Tsinghua University. He serves as a Council Member and the Director of the Engine Division of the China Society of Automotive Engineers (China-SAE), a Council Member of the Beijing Internal Combustion Engine Society, a member of the National Standardization Technical Committee for Diesel Engine Electronic Control, Vice Chair of the National Teaching Steering Committee for Vehicle Engineering, and Executive Council Member of the China Machinery Industry Education Association.
From September 1985 to July 2005, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Internal Combustion Engine Engineering, followed by Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, all from the Department of Automotive Engineering at Tsinghua University. He has been working at the Department (later School) of Automotive Engineering, Tsinghua University, since June 1994, holding various administrative positions including Deputy Party Secretary in charge of student affairs, Deputy Department Head, and Deputy Dean.
From December 1998 to December 1999, he conducted research as a visiting scholar at the Isuzu Central Research Institute in Japan, participating in a study related to diesel engine technology for the US PNGV (Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles) program, which targeted a fuel consumption of 3 liters per 100 kilometers. He was promoted to Professor at Tsinghua University in October 2012 and was among the first faculty members to be appointed as a tenured professor at the university in 2017.
