State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Green Vehicle and Mobility (formerly the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy) was established in 1989 and was among the first cohort of national key laboratories in China’s automotive field and at Tsinghua University.
Over the past three decades, the laboratory has consistently pursued its mission of advancing fundamental disciplinary theories and tackling key technologies for major engineering challenges. Aligning with disciplinary frontiers and major demands of the times, it has achieved significant results in critical areas such as automotive active safety, automotive passive safety, automotive electronic control, engine and emission control, and new powertrains and electric vehicles. Since its restructuring in November 2022, the laboratory has focused on conducting research to address bottleneck issues critical to national strategic needs—specifically “high-safety, long-life, and high-efficiency electrification” and “high-safety, high-reliability intelligent and connected driving.” Its work provides scientific and technological support for consolidating and maintaining China’s advantageous position in the field of intelligent vehicles and green transportation, and for achieving sustainable development in strategic pillar industries.
