On March 15, the 2025 China Beijing Social Science Editors Forum was held. Distinguished guests attending the forum included YANG Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University; Louise Curtis, Senior Vice President for Life Sciences and Social Sciences Journals at Elsevier; and LIU Can, Director of the Editorial and Publishing Department at the Science Communication and Achievement Transformation Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The forum was chaired by QU Xiaobo, Editor-in-Chief of Communications in Transportation Research, Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, and Professor at the School of Vehicle and Mobility, Tsinghua University. Associate Professor WANG Kai from the School served as the Conference Chair.

YANG Bin stated that the production and dissemination of high-level academic achievements are crucial for promoting the development of human society. Academic publishing, serving as a bridge for knowledge dissemination, plays an irreplaceable role in enhancing research impact. He highly commended Elsevier's professional contributions to advancing academic exchange and expressed Tsinghua's anticipation of establishing efficient mechanisms for disseminating research outcomes through in-depth collaboration with world-leading publishers. Both parties aim to use this forum as an opportunity to deepen strategic cooperation, jointly promote the establishment of new benchmarks in academic publishing, and inject new momentum into global knowledge sharing and scientific progress.

QU Xiaobo remarked that academic journals, as new infrastructure for knowledge sharing, are reshaping the landscape of academic communication, and building an open and inclusive academic community has become a vital engine for global innovation and development. This forum focused on key topics such as reforming academic journal quality evaluation systems and empowering publishing processes with artificial intelligence technology. Through the exchange of ideas and practical experiences, participants jointly explored pathways for the transformation and upgrading of the academic communication ecosystem.

Louise Curtis; Joe d’Angelo, Publishing Director at Elsevier; JIANG Chujie, Publisher at Elsevier; and QU Xiaobo delivered keynote speeches titled "An Overview of Elsevier’s Science, Technology, and Medicine (STM) Journals," "Innovative Practices in Elsevier Journal Publishing," "Generative AI (GenAI) Empowering Scientific Writing and Academic Publishing," and "How to Nurture a New Journal," respectively.
The forum also featured three panel discussions on "Innovation," "Artificial Intelligence (AI)," and "Creating Impact," where experts and scholars exchanged views on topics including open access models, the development of data-sharing platforms, and research on intelligent publishing technologies.
An open interactive session was moderated by WANG Kai. Experts from Elsevier and attendees engaged in face-to-face exchanges in a Q&A format, providing detailed answers to questions such as "How to become a journal editor-in-chief" and "Planning a research career," with lively interaction on site.
The forum was co-organized by the School of Vehicle and Mobility at Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University Press, the Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and Elsevier. Representatives from the Research Institute and the Press of Tsinghua University, along with nearly 100 experts, scholars, and journal practitioners from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Beihang University, Beijing Normal University, and other institutions attended the event.
